We prepared for Hurricane Sandy, aka Frankenstorm as best we could. They told us to plan and prepare to be without power for a few days. So we stocked up and braced ourselves. After it is all said and done, we feel extremely blessed to have only had to deal with a lot of rain and stong wind. We never lost power and though we held our breath and said a prayer everytime the wind gusted, we are thankful. We have watched the news footage of other parts of the east coast and I cannot imagine what we would have done. We managed to keep ourselves entertained for our four day weekend!
Sunday afternoon, Brendan was determinded to stay outside as long as we could because he goes stir crazy being in the house for too long (like 4 hours). Sunday the sprinkles started.
The top picture is a before and below is a during picture. We have a lot of trees in our yard, but this skinny one made me the most nervous. I sure did bend a lot. I did not take an after picture because it really did not look too much different. After two days of heavy winds, we still had a lot of leave on the trees too.
A River Runs Threw It: Monday morning, our two foot deep trench that runs across our backyard was full. We wondered why it was there and now we know. This was the fullest it every got, but Brendan went out to check it out and make sure it had a clear path to flow out the other end and into the ditch that lead to the creek.
While he was outside, the kids decided to sleep in and watch Mickey Mouse Clubhouse! Hayden stretched out, Abby needed some friends to join her :)
When I say we prepared for the storm, we got the usual, batteries, water, bread... but Brendan also made sure to get some new entertainment! The hot wheels race track was the first to come out!
Then the dress-up kit came out. They got to color little thin plastic outfits and then we baked them in the oven and they shrunk into actual clothes for the models.
Tuesday, the new coloring books came out! Spiderman and Dora, Yippee!
What rainy day would be complete without a game of hide and seek. Can anyone find Hayden?
Well now the school and offices are opening and we have to go back to the real world tomorrow. We are just so blessed to be able to go back so soon. Our thoughts and prayers go out to those who were hit by this storm worse than we were by the floods, winds, fires and blizzards.
